Reunion Class of 1969 Donates $1,069 to Tiskilwa Historical Society

Adding to a generous tradition established by the Tiskilwa High School Class of 1962, this year’s THS 50th Anniversary class made a hefty donation to the Historical Society’s Building Fund. Their donation was immediately put to use at the Society’s new Gallery on Galena by purchasing eight remaining shutters as well as the materials that volunteers are using to build an access ramp on the east side of the building.

Fourteen members of the THS Class of 1969 gathered on the evening of August 2 during Pow Wow weekend. First row, from left: Nancy McCauley Wagner, Sharon Engel Royer, Jane O’Neill Piccatto, Connie Magnuson Kauffman, Cindy Madsen Davidson, Ross Joiner. Second row: Pat Sidebottom Hassler, Clarence Turpen, Joellen Schertz, Keith Miller, Duane Bell, Diane Madsen Ori, John Vail, Mike Kane, Ron Ziegler

All the final touches will be in place for the Grand Opening at the GoG on November 11 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at 505 Galena Street, Tiskilwa. The public is warmly invited to attend this event.

Even those who visited the Gallery during one of the two “As-Is” open houses earlier this year will find new artifacts and photographs of interest. One of the showcases displays a special exhibit focused on the centennial celebration of the American Legion, which first convened on November 11, 1919, in Minneapolis. The Gallery building is the former home of the Tiskilwa American Legion, Post 346.

The Grand Opening will be followed by the Society’s annual Salute to Veterans at 7:00 at the Museum on Main. This November 11 program, presented by Mike Johnson of Princeton, will focus on the participation of local doughboys in the war and America’s efforts to rebuild war-ravaged Europe in the years following the war.
