Memorial Day 2024

Beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27 in the East Park, Tiskilwa Historical Society invites the community to attend our village's annual Memorial Day program. Special recognition will be given to E5 Sgt. Bob Wilson, Tiskilwa, a veteran who received the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam in 1969-1970.

Society member and Navy veteran Jennifer Fisher will again host the ceremony, and Army veteran Scott Bickett will be the keynote speaker.

Immediately following the memorial service, the community is invited to an open house from 12:00 to 1:30 at Tiskilwa's Gallery on Galena (the former American Legion Hall) to enjoy refreshments and view our extensive display of military memorabilia donated by local veterans and their families.

Take a look with us over the past years of Memorial Days -- 2017 to 2023: Flags placed by volunteers at veterans' graves in Mt. Bloom and St. Mary's Cemeteries; solemn ceremonies followed by families and friends enjoying the sunshine in our lovely East Park; keynote speakers and the presentation of the colors; even virtual ceremonies that we posted on YouTube during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. All are cherished memories with well over 100 residents in attendance to honor our fallen service members.
