Fun Fact Friday

It’s time for another Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that Illinois has almost 2,000 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places? Bureau County has 19 and Tiskilwa has 2 of those important buildings! Pretty good representation for our village.

Lone Tree School House was added to the Register in 2004. The historic one-room school sits in its original location south of town. It is one of the best-preserved schoolhouses still standing of the 236 one-room schools that once existed in Bureau County.

The Stevens Home was added to the Register in 1992. The 1842 home of John Stevens is known for its original Greek Revival architecture which was redesigned in 1901 by popular Chicago architect George W. Maher, a contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Our National Register buildings bring us regional attention and serve as a great introduction to all the other amazing historic structures in our community!
