Tiskilwa Museums to Open by Appointment, Beginning Immediately

As Illinois takes small steps toward business as usual, Tiskilwa’s two museums will also open, on a limited basis. At their June meeting, the Tiskilwa Historical Society’s Board of Directors voted to open both venues, Museum on Main and Gallery on Galena, by appointment only until further notice, effective on June 2.

Following social-distancing and other guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health, a volunteer staffer will welcome visitors at either or both museums. To set up an appointment, please call Cecille Gerber at 815.646.4353 to make arrangements and go over guidelines. There will be a limit of ten guests at a time.

Until further notice, both of Tiskilwa’s museums will be open by appointment only, following Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines. Staffers have been working on a new display at Gallery on Galena: “Local Women in the Military.” The exhibit includes World War II uniforms of a Navy WAVE and an Army lieutenant as well as contemporary dress uniforms for a Navy corpsman and an Army officer.

During the months that museum doors were shut, the Board was been busy working on various projects. For instance, village residents have noticed a refreshed, cheerful look to the grounds at the Museum on Main, and the Gallery on Galena boasts several additions to its military display. Specifically, staffers are developing a section titled “Local Women in the Military.” The display currently features Evelyn Albrecht’s WAVE uniform and also dress uniforms donated by Jennifer Fisher, the family of Lucille Steimle, and Heidi Engel.
