Tiskilwa’s Museums Continue Winter Hours

As winter drags on, folks with cabin fever can find a warm and cheerful place of refuge at one of Tiskilwa’s museums this weekend. The new Gallery on Galena (just south of the tracks) will be open every first Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00. As always, the Museum on Main continues its regular hours every Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00. Volunteer staff members will be at both venues to welcome you and show you around.

For those who have not yet visited the Gallery on Galena a treasure trove awaits – dozens of items of American Legion and military memorabilia as well as a recreation of one of Tiskilwa’s fifteen country schools. The Museum on Main, housed in the former Methodist Church, boasts five galleries with 18 thematic areas of specialized interest!

The Tiskilwa Historical Society’s programs will welcome the beginning of daylight savings time on Monday, March 9, with the return to Tiskilwa of popular historian and author Brian “Fox” Ellis. Last March, Brian’s portrayal of John Deere was very well received. This time around, he’ll assume the persona of John James Audubon, as he reflects on his artistic career and his special fascination with America’s diversity of birds. His presentation is made possible through a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.

Among the uniforms on display at the new Gallery on Galena are those pictured here, belonging to Tiskilwa natives David Hopper, Lisle Vaughn, and Harry Quick. The Gallery will be open every first Saturday of the month.
