Museum on Main to Feature Classic Rides, Farm Exhibit on August 3

Many shady spots on the west lawn at Tiskilwa’s museum will be lined with unique vehicles on Saturday morning, August 3, as the historical society hosts its annual Classic Rides display. It’s not a competition, just a chance to admire and discuss the finer points of a variety of “wheels” owned by the local folks who participate in this Pow Wow Days event.

All vehicles are welcome to roll in around 9:00 or earlier – from cars and trucks, to tractors and buggies, to tricked-out golf carts and bicycles – any classic ride. Some owners may wish to participate in the Pow Wow parade first, and that’s fine, too. Most rides will be there until noon or later so that visitors can inspect them all morning long.

One of the Classic Rides on display at the Museum on Main on August 3 from 9:00 to noon will be this sharp 1965 powder-blue Dodge Coronet 500, owned by Craig Ziegler. He purchased a pulled-apart car about seven years ago, put it back together, and made it hum.

To go along with the 2019 Pow Wow theme of “Down on the Farm,” Board members also have put together a special exhibit highlighting farm-related items from the museum collection. The exhibit fills the big showcase in the Timeline Hallway, just inside the main entrance. Visitors can enjoy seeing dozens of old-time items, including a prototype of a special harrow patented by John Cotter’s grandfather and a hard-boiled egg slicer just like your grandma liked to use.

The Museum on Main will host special hours during Pow Wow Days, August 2, 3, and 4: Friday from 12 to 4; Saturday from 9 to 4, and Sunday from 12 to 4. In addition, the new Gallery on Galena will also be open from 12:00 to 2:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
