TISKILWA’S COUNTRY SCHOOL SIGNS

Mission Accomplished!

Yes, indeed, all fifteen signs for our country schools have been installed. Through the financial support of 24 historical society members, our SCHOOL SIGNS FUND currently stands only $750 short of $3,000 installation cost.  A special few other members have donated their time to install all the signs.

You may want to take a virtual tour, here and now, and print out the map. Then the next time you’re in or around The Gem of the Valley you can locate each site, up close and personal.  Several local enthusiasts have already made the circuit on a self-guided tour.

How did it all start?  Beginning in the spring of 2012, the Board began discussing a way to honor our country schools.  After a good deal of factual research, digging around for photos, and designing the look of the signs, we ordered and installed the handsome 24X24-inch signs at a cost of about $200 each.  Now that they are all in place, several folks have volunteered to do a bit of landscaping, plant perennials and maintain the area around each sign . . . just another example of the generosity of our community members – some of whom are not even officially part of the historical society.

If you’d like to make a tax-deductible contribution, please write “Country School Fund” on the memo line of your check and send it to Box 87.  We appreciate your continued support.
